Fameshow

Following the viral launch of HQ Trivia (opens in a new tab), I created my own mobile-first gameshow:

Fameshow (opens in a new tab) is a live talent show with cash prizes! Anyone can stream and the audience decides who gets more time. Contestants are randomly picked to go live in front of everyone and have an initial 20 seconds to perform. Viewers can 'heart' talented performers, awarding them more time. Contestants are paid by the minute.

I designed and built the iOS app using Swift and was the "host" of the show. I learned how to use Adobe AfterEffects to produce the sizzle real intro and marketing material. I worked with one of my friends (opens in a new tab) who was responsible for the live streaming backend infrastructure, which was implemented using RTMP (opens in a new tab) and websockets.

I was interested in creating shared digital experiences (all viewers tuned in at the same time) and giving mass audiences direct control over the content they were interested in. (I'd explore the philosophical implications of these ideas in my thesis.)

Here is how the show started (and yes, in hindsight, this is a little embarassing 😅).
